Beginning Photography

Slide Talk

For this assignment you will give a short 5 to 10 minute talk, with "digital slide"s about a photographer you find interesting.  You are required to have a list of three photographers to choose from and to clear your choice through me before you scan or shoot pictures on the copy stand for your talk.  After I approve of your photographer you will the check out a book from the library, scan or shoot pictures on the copy stand from that book and then put them in Power Point or something akin to that for a talk.

For your talk you should give us some basic biographical information such as when they were born, where they lived, what kind of education they received, what time period they were actively working and what influences there were upon them.  You should also tell us if they were involved in a specific Art Movement.

While this is not an Art History classÉ..I expect you to give a THOROUGH but BRIEF talk about your subject.  You may find some useful information about your subject on the internet however, beware...most of the pictures you find on the internet are not of a high enough resolution or large enough to be useful for this assignment. You absolutely must shoot your pictures from a book on the copy stand in the photography lab or use a flat bed scanner. I will show you how to do this. Failure to have Ògood lookingÓ slides will result in a poor grade.

You need to have at least 30 images and they should be sized at 72 Pixels Per Inch with the longest side being no larger than 800 pixels. DO NOT try to put high resolution images in your talk...it will cause Power Point to bog down. Please make the background of your slide either plain white or black. After you have assembled your slide talk you can then burn it to a CD or put it on a Flash drive so that we can transfer it to my computer for the actual presentation.
